    Los fracasos de la era 'Tata' Martino al frente de la selección mexicana

    La eliminación del Mundial Qatar 2022 en Fase de Grupos culminó tres años de dudas y críticas contar el argentino al frente del Tri.

    La histórica eliminación en Fase de Grupos de Qatar 2022 culminó una larga lista de ‘pecados’ del director técnico argentino.

    La selección mexicana quedó eliminada del Mundial de Qatar 2022 en Fase de Grupos, la última desgracia en la era Gerardo 'Tata' Martino desde que tomara la direción técnica en enero de 2019.

    Martino, el tercer entrenador de origen argentino en la historia del Tri --siendo César Luis Menotti el primero y Ricardo La Volpe el segundo-- comenzó su periodo en el banquillo mexicano con buen ritmo, pues en su debut en marzo de 2019 venció a Chile en partido amistoso con marcador de 3-1.

    Ese mismo año, en el verano, el 'Tata' Martino se consagró al levantar su primer título oficial con la selección mexicana en la Copa Oro de Concacaf tras derrotar 1-0 al acérrimo rival de la zona, los Estados Unidos, el 8 de julio de 2019.

    En el segundo semestre del 2019, el Tri sufrió su primer golpe de realidad al caer goleado por Argentina 4-0 en juego amistoso, que arrancó de tajo una racha de 11 fechas sin perder.

    El 2021 sería el año que marcaría el inicio de una serie de críticas, dudas, incertidumbre y quejas por parte de la prensa especializada y fanáticos en contra de la dirigencia de Martino, que tendría su dolorosa culminación con la eliminación de Qatar 2022.

    La selección mexicana hiló tres partidos perdiendo ante Estados Unidos, en momentos y torneos diferentes, que terminarían por mermar la frácil relación entre la afición y el entrenador argentino.

    El 7 de junio de 2021, México se conformana con el subcampeonato de la Concacaf Nations League tras perder 2-3 contra el Team USA de Gregg Barhalter.

    Dos meses después, el 2 de agosto, el Tri de Martino volvía a perder una final ante el vecino del norte, esta vez en la Copa Oro, por la mínima diferencia de 1-0.

    Como si fuera poco, México nunca podría ganarle a Estados Unidos y Canadá --los rivales más fuertes de Concacaf-- durante las Eliminatorias Mundialistas, ni en calidad de local y mucho menos de visitante. El Tri terminaría en segundo lugar de la clasificación con su boleto al Mundial, pero con muchas dudas y un estilo de juego sin 'punch'.

    El adiós de la Copa del Mundo 2022 en Fase de Grupos fue el clavo que selló de una vez por todas el ataúd de la relación entre Gerardo Martino, la selección mexicana y su afición.
