    La Selección Mexicana de Gerardo Martino quedó tercera de su grupo, con mismos puntos que el segundo, Polonia.

    México tuvo su peor actuación en Mundiales desde aquella participacón en Argentina 1978. El Tri quedó fuera del Mundial de Qatar 2022 al vencer 1-2 a Arabia Saudita pero no lograr los goles suficientes para superar al segundo del grupo, Polonia, en ese rubro de desempate.

    El Tri se había clasificado siempre a los Octavos de Final desde Estados Unidos 1994, un total de siete, que se puede sumar una octava con la de México 1986. Cabe recordar que en España 1982 e Italia 1990 no fue la selección a la Copa del Mundo.

    Justamente hace 44 años en el Mundial Argentina 1978 se firmó la última peor actuación en un Mundial de México en la historia al perder los tres partidos y quedar en último lugar.

    Ahora México llegó a cuatro puntos, pero fue el fair play (tener más tarjetas amarillas) lo que le costó al Tricolor quedarse en fase de grupos y le significó a Polonia seguir en el certamen.

    México a evitó igualar el desastre de Argentina 78

    De acuerdo a datos de Ricardo Salazar de TUDN, la selección de México de Gerardo Martino evitó la marca sin gol en una Copa del Mundo que data de la edición de Chile 1962.

    Además de superar la cantidad de minutos de forma consecutiva sin anotación que es de Bolivia en sus tres participaciones en Mundiales.

    • Al anotar gol en los primeros 14 minutos ante Arabia Saudita, México igualó el peor arranque sin gol en una Copa del Mundo (193 minutos en Chile 1962).
    • El Tri nunca ganó por 3-0 en una Copa del Mundo, solo lo ha hecho cuatro veces por 3-1 y solo una vez por 4-0.
